Self-drive with a rental car (or option to hire a private driver/guide)

12 days / 11 nights

Day 1 Arrive Budapest-BUD Airport. Meet with the driver for the private transfer to the hotel in Budapest.

2 overnights in a hotel in Budapest.

Day 2 Day at leisure in Budapest, enjoying a walking tour or Tuk Tuk tour of the city. Afternoon Danube cruise in Budapest.

Day 3 Pickup rental car in Budapest. Drive to the hotel in Eger; making stops along the way, perhaps Szentendre and/or Hollókő. 2 overnights in a hotel in Eger.

Day 4 Day to explore the town, taste the local red wines, visit the Castle of Eger, Valley of the Beautiful Women, or the City Under the City.

Day 5 Drive to Debreen, perhaps stopping in the industrial town of Miskolc or at the Szinva waterfall. Afternoon tour of the historic city center and/or Jewish quarter. 1 overnight in a hotel in Debrecen.

Day 6 Drive to the hotel in Szolnok, possibly stopping in the Hortobágyi National Park for a visit. Afternoon in Szolnok for visiting the churches, cathedrals, museums, and the Tiszavirág Pedestrian Bridge. 

1 overnight in a hotel in Szolnok.

Day 7 Continue on to Pécs with the rental car. Some sightseeing stops include Kecskemét to see the park and Cifra Palace, Lake Vadkert, or at the Pörböly Ecotourism Center. 

2 overnights in a hotel in Pécs.

Day 8 Day to sightseeing in Pécs; popular places to visit include the Early Christian Mausoleum featuring the frescoed tombs, Vast Pécs Cathedral towers over central Szent István Square, and the domed Mosque of Pasha Gazi Kasim.

Day 9 Depart for the hotel Székesfehérvár, stopping along the way to see the nearby castles, and rest of day to explore the city. 

2 overnights in a hotel in Székesfehérvár.

Day 10 Day trip to Balaton Lake. There is lots to do and see here, including: swimming and bathing, cruising, the museum, explore the national park, visit Tihany Abbey, stopping at Festetics Palace or Siofok Water Tower, and exploring the zoo.

Day 11 Head to the hotel in Budapest. Afternoon to return the rental car and visit the spa to rest and relax before your travels to return home, ending the trip refreshed. Note: The rental car can be returned on this day, or at the airport when departing. 1 overnight in a hotel in Budapest.

Day 12 Meet with the driver for the private transfer to the Budapest-BUD Airport. Fly home.
